Quantum Consciousness

quantum consciousness

Your consciousness is energy and information that is self-aware. Although you normally experience your mental activity as occurring within your body, the origin of your consciousness lies beyond space and time.

The quantum theory of consciousness aims to understand your soul, the afterlife, and other realms of existence. It is a new science looking at the relationship between consciousness, the body, subjective perception, and objective physical reality.

Some scientists have shown that quantum phenomena play an important part in the function of brain neurons. They believe that the emergence of consciousness is possible only because of quantum physics. Other scientists believe that the human brain creates consciousness and that consciousness cannot survive without the brain.

Consciousness Exists Beyond Your Body

Your body is a vessel for your mind and soul. Your body receives streams of energy and information from your consciousness, the spiritual realms, and your senses. This is like how a radio receives radio signals. You filter out the noise and channel a specific frequency of signals as your thoughts, feelings, and images. These are then projected onto your inner screen of awareness.

This idea was originally proposed by Henri Bergson, a 19th-century French philosopher. His idea accommodates the experimental observations of neuroscience and quantum physics. It also corresponds with many of the most unbelievable aspects of spiritual teachings including ascension, miracles, enlightenment, and oneness with The Creator of ‘all that is’.

Roger Penrose, a prominent researcher in quantum consciousness, says that your brain is much more sophisticated. It is closer to a quantum computer. Instead of binary, the human brain works with computations that are in a superposition of different quantum states at the same time.

It is entirely possible that consciousness exists before the formation of your brain and all conscious beings are connected as a whole. Your consciousness can exist outside of your body and also after the death of your brain. Then it would be possible for your consciousness, or subtle mind, to experience many lifetimes as yourself being different people.

A common belief in spirituality is that the universe is alive and the earth is a school for spiritual beings to experience reality in corporeal form. If one pre-existing consciousness has created the universe, it would experience human life by experiencing many human lifetimes simultaneously.

Human Observation Creates Reality

Electrons, photons, and atomic nuclei behave like particles or waves. What you observe depends on the presence or absence of an observing human mind. When you observe the behaviour of electrons using measuring devices, they appear as particles. When such instruments are removed, they behave like waves.

Scientists are unable to determine what an animal such as a cat or a dog sees if it observes the double-slit experiment. If you observe the slits the electrons will appear as particles, otherwise, they are waves. If this observation has no meaning to animals, it is possible that the wave-function may not collapse into particles.

Subatomic particles are not located at any point in space at any given moment. Until they are observed, they do not exist in space or time. When unobserved they exist in a superposition of the range of all locations where they could appear when they are observed. They are entirely dependent on the presence of the observing mind to have a defined physical location in reality.

Without the human mind to observe it, the universe exists in a superposition of all possibilities. There are an infinite range of possible universes of different probabilities of occurrence.  As far as we know, our universe doesn’t exist at all as a physical universe unless the human mind is present. From this perspective, your human mind creates and sustains what appears to be a universe that is vast and old.

Consciousness and Free Will

In the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum physics, the quantum wave function collapses due to a conscious observer making a measurement of a physical system. This is the interpretation of quantum physics that sparked the Schrodinger’s cat thought experiment.

An extreme version of the Copenhagen interpretation is the participatory anthropic principle. This was proposed by John Archibald Wheeler. This principle says that the entire universe collapsed into the state you see specifically because conscious observers had to be present to cause the collapse.

Quantum consciousness can resolve the riddle of whether or not you have free will. This is because a quantum system can never predict an outcome with certainty. It can only use a probability from among the various possible states.  So if it can be proved that your consciousness is governed by quantum processes then you will have free will.

Holographic Consciousness

Your consciousness may be based on a hologram. Many properties of your brain are similar to those associated with holograms. Your memory is distributed in the brain. They do not suddenly disappear. Rather they slowly fade away like an old photograph.

Holograms preserve the three-dimensional quality of an object. Normally, lasers are used to record the diffraction pattern of an object from which a 3-dimensional image of the object can be rebuilt.

Karl Pribham, a research psychologist, has proposed the holonomic model of memory. He observes sensory perception waves as electromagnetic activations that propagate through your brain like the wavefront in a liquid. These waves cross your brain together with memory waves of your sensory perception. The waves of information travel through your brain and interfere with each other. The interference of a memory wave and a perceptual wave generates a structure that resembles a hologram.

Spirituality offers answers and perspectives that science cannot answer. Beyond physical reality are the spiritual realms. Quantum consciousness implies that we are all one living being experiencing countless individual consciousness streams. Right now you are one soul in one body being conscious.

Until you have experienced other realities directly, it can be tricky to consider being conscious without your body. Science asks more questions than it answers. More research is required into why people accurately share stories of past lives or return from the dead with descriptions of near-death experiences.

When you die, your mind dissolves through spiritual levels and your conscious soul transfers to the next level of existence. Right now you are connected with everyone else and we co-create our reality together.
